Sea Diving

You should definitely experience sea diving in Kalymnos. Thanks to the long tradition in shipping and in the sponge- related activities, the locals are experts in sea diving and they will gladly share their secrets with you. It is no coincidence besides that the first state diving school was established in Kalymnos island.

Here, you will find the largest - 12 kilometers long - released coastline area in Greece, in order to practise scuba diving. Although banned across almost the whole country for the protection of archaeological treasures, scuba diving is an activity that you can enjoy in Kalymnos, either under the guidance of a teacher of a diving center or by yourself, if you have the proper knowledge and equipment.

The underwater environment is really rich, and in addition to the plethora of marine species that you will encounter, you are going to find out remnants of ancient and most modern shipwrecks.

 

Scuba Diving

Get ready and start exploring any of the proposed diving areas you might select. The most preferred areas though are the following:

  • The 12 km long coastline between Therma and Pithari.
  • The Diving Park, the first in Greece.
  • The two sponge farms, one in Kastelli and another in Kambi.
  • The Diapori area, in Leros island, which is easily accessible from Kalymnos.

In Kalymnos you will find several diving centers with great expertise, that will be especially useful if you are not such an experienced diver or in case you might need any help.

 

Fishing

Kalymnos is a famous fishing spot and thus fishing enthusiasts can spend many happy hours with their favorite hobby, returning back at home with delicious fish and fresh seafood for the cooking pot or the grill. Unless you have already brought all the necessary equipment with youspecialized stores in Pothia will provide you with everything you might need.

 

Deep Water Solo

The landforms of Kalymnos is ideal for practicing DWS. You can rent a boat or a canoe from Vathys area, pull out on the bay and then climb the rocks above the water, simply equipped with your magnesium powder and your shoes. Bear in mind that due to great demand, it is advised to arrange promptly all the action regarding boat rental.

 

Sailing

Sailing in Kalymnos is a relaxing activity, since the moderate winds allow you to enjoy the shore, while taking your plunges in the turquoise sea and admiring the beautiful natural sites of the island. If you do not own a boat, you can rent one from Pothia (with or without skipper) and then visit the nearby islands.

 

Windsurfing

The gentle, moderate and fresh breezes that blow in the narrow passage between Kalymnos and Telendos are the perfect ally for those who love windsurfing. Ride your  surfboard and you explore the most private parts of the island. You will find yourself in paradise coves that will amaze you!

 

Yacht - Cruises

For those who prefer a more comfortable exploration of the coastline of Kalymnos and its nearby islandsyacht rental is an option that will bring a more cosmopolitan attitude to your holiday. In Kalymnos you can find yachting companies that not only provide such services but also organize cruises to other islands nearby.
